Official Holiday Announced for Prophet’s Birthday

The Sultanate of Oman has declared Sunday, September 15, 2024, as an official holiday for both public and private sector employees in observance of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH).
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour, it was announced, “On the occasion of the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, peace and blessings be upon him, Sunday, the 11th of Rabi’ al-Awwal 1446 AH, corresponding to September 15, 2024, will be an official holiday for employees of the State’s Administrative Apparatus, legal entities, and private sector establishments.”
However, the Ministry also stated that private sector employers may require employees to work on this day if necessary, depending on the nature of their work. In such cases, employees must be compensated in accordance with labour regulations.
