Omani Student Wins Second Place in FIAP International Photography Competition

Maria Mohammed Al Rahbi, a student at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), won second place in the World Photography Cup for Universities and Higher Education Institutions 2024.

Maria, a computer science major in the College of Science and a member of the photography group at the Deanship of Student Affairs, participated in the competition as part of the team representing SQU. The competition was open to all higher education institutions worldwide, allowing each institution to participate with a maximum of five students, each submitting four photographs.

The competition, organized by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), saw participation from 88 universities globally.

The jury included renowned specialists in the field of photography, including photographers from National Geographic Society, the Silk Road Photography Organisation, and officials from FIAP.

The award ceremony will take place in China in October 2024, alongside other events such as an international conference and photography exhibition.

Fifteen artworks by Maria Al Rahbi will be displayed in FIAP galleries, and she will also participate in a workshop attended by international photographers during the award event.
