Significant Rise in Electric Vehicles in Oman: 300% Increase in 2024

The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Oman has seen a 300% increase in 2024 compared to the previous year, growing from 550 vehicles in 2023 to 1,500 in 2024.
Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, stated that Oman has taken important steps toward achieving green mobility by 2050 as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
In terms of infrastructure, more than 120 EV charging points were installed in 2023, with plans to expand to over 200 by the end of this year and 350 charging points by 2027 across the Sultanate.
Additionally, initiatives like converting port equipment to electric systems, developing green corridors, and introducing electric bicycles for delivery services are part of Oman’s vision for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.
