All Carrefour operations in Jordan have been halted

Majid Al Futtaim Group, the official representative of the global Carrefour brand, announced that it will halt all Carrefour operations in Jordan starting today. In a statement posted on Carrefour Jordan’s Facebook page, the group thanked its customers for their support and apologized for any inconvenience caused by this decision.

This decision comes in response to a wave of boycott initiated by the people of Jordan in support of the people of Gaza following the outbreak of war by Israel against this region on October 7, 2023. Carrefour was one of the brands significantly impacted by this movement.

At the same time, Majid Al Futtaim Group announced the launch of a new brand, “Hyper Max,” in Jordan. In a statement, a copy of which was sent to Reuters, it stated: “We are pleased to invite you to participate in the launch of Hyper Max, our new brand in the food sector in the retail market of Jordan, which is fully owned by Majid Al Futtaim.”

This opening is set to take place today, Tuesday, November 5, at City Mall in the capital of Jordan, Amman. The Majid Al Futtaim Group emphasized that this new chain will offer local food products and household essentials to meet the diverse needs of customers with 34 stores across the country.
