Tender Launched for Phase One of Jabal Shams Tourism Project with Investment of OMR 11 Million

The Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah has announced the launch of the tender for phase one of the Jabal Shams tourism development project in the Wilayat of Al Hamra. This ambitious initiative aims to boost tourism, create job opportunities, and attract private investment. The project will be developed on a 145,000-square-meter plot with a total investment of OMR 11 million (approximately USD 28.6 million).
Jabal Shams, the highest peak in Oman, is one of the country’s premier destinations for hiking and nature tourism. Its breathtaking landscapes, mountainous climate, and deep canyons make it a favorite for local and international visitors. Unlike Jabal Akhdar, known for its greenery, orchards, and mild weather, Jabal Shams is distinguished by its dramatic elevation and panoramic views of deep valleys such as Wadi Nakhr, offering a thrilling and unique experience.
Project Phases Overview
Phase one of the project will focus on essential infrastructure, including land grading, road construction, utility networks (electricity, water, sewage, and telecommunications), and the building of administrative facilities, parking areas, and public spaces.
Phase two will introduce the core components of the tourism project, such as a public plaza, an open-air theatre, a cultural light garden, a glass walkway, a children’s entertainment zone, a summer camp, a 250-meter mountain slide, a 200-meter zipline, a wellness trail, and a geological exhibition center.
Additional facilities will include co-working spaces, local product kiosks, an information center, an adventure center, and reception and administration offices.

Investment Opportunities and Competitive Advantage
Alongside project progress, private sector investment opportunities will be announced starting mid-April 2025. These include the development of a luxury resort overlooking Wadi Nakhr, a coffee and fruit farm, an adventure activities center, and a suspended glass bridge.
The project will also offer 32 small-scale investment opportunities for entrepreneurs to launch their own ventures, encouraging local business growth and community participation.
