Starlink Satellite Internet Officially Launched in Oman

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has officially granted Starlink Muscat the license to launch satellite internet services in the Sultanate. This came alongside Elon Musk’s announcement on platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Starlink now available in Oman.”

This move marks a major step in expanding high-speed internet access to remote and hard-to-reach regions across Oman.

Starlink has officially launched its satellite internet services in Oman with approval from Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

High-speed internet for remote areas of Oman; a leap in digital connectivity

Starlink is the world’s first and largest low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network providing high-speed, stable, and low-latency internet. Unlike traditional satellites orbiting at 35,700 km with high latency (~600 ms), Starlink satellites operate at 550 km, delivering latency as low as 25 ms — ideal for streaming, gaming, and video calls.

  • Full geographic coverage across the Sultanate
  • Internet speeds up to 100 Mbps
  • Innovative connectivity solutions for telecom towers in mountainous areas
  • Support for vital sectors: oil & gas, mining, tourism, and agriculture

✅ Benefits of the Launch:

  • Boosting competition among licensed telecom companies
  • Enhancing internet quality and speed
  • Providing diverse options for both individuals and businesses
  • Empowering Oman’s digital transformation goals
  • Open to all users (individuals and entities) who seek better connectivity

This initiative follows Royal Decree No. 42/2023, issued on 20 June 2023, which authorized Starlink Muscat to establish and operate a public fixed satellite communication system in Oman.
