Oman-UAE Railway Accelerates: 100-Minute Journey Between Abu Dhabi and Sohar

Muscat – 8 May 2025–– The $2.5 billion UAE-Oman railway project is rapidly advancing, with on-site construction now underway. Hafeet Rail confirmed that heavy equipment has been deployed to lay tracks, marking a significant milestone in connecting the two Gulf nations.

The 238-km line will link five major ports and industrial zones between Oman and the UAE, enhancing regional trade, logistics, and infrastructure integration. Each freight train is set to carry over 15,000 tonnes of goods, equivalent to 270 standard containers. Passenger trains will travel at up to 200 km/h, reducing the Abu Dhabi–Sohar journey to just 100 minutes, with capacity for 400 passengers per trip.

Aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE Centennial 2071, the railway aims to establish a strategic trade corridor that strengthens the region’s role as a hub for transportation and logistics services.
