Omani Citizen Arrested for Rental Ad Fraud and Collecting Advance Booking Payments

The Royal Oman Police announced the arrest of a citizen accused of defrauding multiple individuals by posting fake advertisements for rental properties—including houses, apartments, and rest houses—across various governorates in Oman.

Modus Operandi
According to the official report, the suspect used misleading photos and descriptions to gain the victims’ trust, asking them to transfer money via bank transactions as a “reservation deposit.” The accused would then cut off all communication without providing any real service.

Authorities urge citizens and residents to exercise caution when dealing with online rental listings, verify the authenticity of the advertiser and property documents, and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities promptly.
