IKEA Oman Unveils a New Collection Blending Scandinavian Design with Local Art

IKEA Oman, part of the Al-Futtaim Group, has officially launched the cultural and artistic initiative “Global with a Local Spirit” in the Sultanate of Oman. The initiative aims to reinterpret IKEA’s iconic products through the perspective of local artists, creating a link between Scandinavian design and Middle Eastern cultural identity.

As part of this initiative, Omani artist Mohammed Al Attar redesigned five signature IKEA products — a vase, a room divider, a side table, a table lamp, and a cushion cover — drawing inspiration from Omani art, patterns, and traditional materials. These works reflect a fusion of Scandinavian simplicity and functionality with Omani aesthetics and artistic heritage.

The collection is being launched simultaneously in Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Egypt. The redesigned items are displayed at the IKEA Oman store in Oman Avenues Mall, along with conceptual descriptions for each piece.

IKEA is also organizing live art workshops, community activities, and the “Your Local Story” competition as part of this initiative, encouraging customers to participate by sharing their own cultural stories. Five selected works from the competition will be awarded to winners at the end of the program.

IKEA management stated that this initiative supports cultural identity, the development of creative industries, and the integration of global design with local cultures, while aligning with the company’s approach to sustainable and accessible living.
