Sultan of Oman Awards High State Decoration to UN Secretary-General

Muscat – December 15, 2025
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman awarded the Order of Oman (Civil), First Class to António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, during an official meeting held at Al Barakah Palace.
The high state decoration was conferred in recognition of the UN Secretary-General’s outstanding diplomatic and political role, as well as his sustained efforts in supporting conflict resolution pathways and strengthening international peace and security.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General’s contributions to multilateral diplomacy and the management of international crises.
For his part, António Guterres conveyed his deep gratitude for the prestigious honor, praising Oman’s constructive role and balanced approach in regional and international diplomacy. He commended the Sultanate’s efforts in promoting dialogue, advancing mediation initiatives, and contributing responsibly to addressing global challenges, stressing the importance of continued cooperation and partnership between the United Nations and the Sultanate of Oman in support of global peace and stability.
The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman; Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Aufi, Head of the Royal Office; Hussain bin Ali bin Abdul Latif, Adviser at the Royal Office; Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security; and Hans Grundberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen.
