Timely Win Keeps Oman’s World Cup Dreams Alive

The Oman national football team secured a crucial victory against Kuwait, keeping their hopes alive for qualification to the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As part of Round 8 of the AFC World Cup Qualifiers, Oman faced Kuwait last night at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City. While the match lacked high tempo, it was Issam Al-Sabhi who broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, securing a valuable 1-0 win for Oman.

With this result, Oman now has 10 points from 8 matches, opening a 5-point gap over fifth-placed Kuwait with just two matches remaining in this stage.

Oman currently sits fourth in Group B, maintaining a realistic chance of qualification. Their remaining fixtures will be played in June against Jordan and Palestine. According to the format, the top two teams from each group qualify directly for the World Cup, while the third- and fourth-placed teams advance to the playoff stage.
