The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) today introduced the official symbol of the Omani rial, a step aimed at strengthening the currency’s presence in global financial and digital markets and standardizing its representation across banking and commercial platforms.
Ahmed bin Jafar Al-Musalmi, Governor of the Central Bank of Oman, stated that the new symbol will unify and enhance the global recognizability of the Omani rial across financial, commercial, and digital systems. It will also support clearer, more standardized international transactions, economic reporting, and banking operations.
According to Al-Musalmi, the symbol also carries cultural and identity value, as its design is inspired by Oman’s monetary heritage and represents a modern continuation of the Sultanate’s long history of economic interaction.
This initiative aligns with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040 in innovation, digital transformation, and global economic integration, ensuring unified representation of the Omani rial across banking systems, financial reports, and international platforms.
