Investment Opportunity in Shore Power Infrastructure at Sohar Port, Oman
Sohar Port and Freezone has unveiled an investment opportunity in shore power infrastructure. This project aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and enhance sustainability in maritime operations, with interested companies invited to submit their applications by January 16, 2025.
Shore power enables vessels to utilize electricity supplied from the shore while docked, allowing them to turn off their diesel engines. This initiative plays a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon dioxide as global environmental regulations become stricter, making it a vital investment for ports.
Dr. Abdullah Al Abri, Vice President of Sustainability at Sohar Port, stated: “At Sohar Port and Freezone, we are setting new benchmarks in maritime sustainability. The shore power project not only focuses on reducing carbon dioxide emissions but also positions Sohar as a hub for innovation and growth in the region.”
This project aligns with the Oman Vision 2040 goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and offers significant economic opportunities for port operators, shipping companies, and local communities.
Engineer Mohammed Al Ambusaidi, Project Manager, added: “This project presents a unique opportunity for investors to participate in the green transformation of Sohar Port and benefit from its strategic location and world-class infrastructure.”
Interested companies must send an official letter confirming their interest to the Sohar Port procurement department. Following this, a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be sent to the companies, which must be signed and returned within two working days. After signing this business cooperation agreement, project documents and technical requirements will be provided to the companies, allowing them to submit their non-binding technical proposals according to the Request for Proposals (RFP) guidelines.
