Arab Countries Welcome US-Yemen Ceasefire Brokered by Oman

6 May 2025 – Muscat | Doha | Amman | Baghdad | Kuwait – A growing number of Arab nations, including Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq, have publicly welcomed the recently announced ceasefire agreement between the United States and the Yemeni authorities in Sanaa, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Oman’s active diplomacy, expressing hope that the agreement would help safeguard maritime navigation and facilitate international trade in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb. The ministry also reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to diplomatic solutions and regional stability.

Jordan described the agreement as a constructive step toward de-escalation in the region, applauding Oman’s mediating role and calling for renewed political dialogue to resolve conflicts peacefully.

Kuwait welcomed the deal, underscoring its belief in peaceful negotiations and Oman’s role in fostering regional security and sustainable diplomacy.

Iraq also praised Muscat’s efforts, highlighting that political engagement remains the most viable path for regional conflict resolution.

However, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the agreement does not include attacks from Yemen on Israel and does not guarantee total safety for all vessels in the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, Mahdi al-Mashat, head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, reiterated that support for Gaza will continue regardless of external pressure, and Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, senior member of the Houthi political bureau, echoed the same commitment.

This diplomatic breakthrough further underscores Oman’s position as a credible and balanced regional mediator, capable of fostering constructive dialogue in complex geopolitical landscapes.
