Arrival of the First 200-Meter Wind Turbines in Duqm Marks the Start of the Executive Phase of Oman’s Largest Wind Power Project

— 27 November 2025
The first shipment of giant wind turbines for the Wind 1 and Wind 2 projects, owned by OQ Alternative Energy, has arrived at the Port of Duqm in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm. These projects are recognized as the largest wind power plants currently under construction in the Sultanate of Oman.

Each turbine stands 200 meters high, with blade lengths reaching 90.2 meters, and each unit has a production capacity of about 6.5 megawatts, sufficient to supply electricity for approximately 2,400 Omani households annually. The total combined capacity of the two projects will reach 234 megawatts of clean energy.

The electricity generated by these wind farms will be fed into the network of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), playing a direct role in reducing gas consumption, improving operational efficiency, and cutting carbon dioxide emissions. These projects form part of Oman’s path toward achieving the Oman Vision 2040 goals and carbon neutrality by 2050.

The unloading, handling, and transportation of 36 wind turbines with a total weight exceeding 298,000 tonnes were carried out by Asyad Group terminals in Duqm, highlighting Oman’s strong logistical capabilities in managing ultra-heavy renewable-energy cargo.
