China to Invest USD One Billion in Lithium Battery Material Plant in Oman

Saturday – 6 June 2025, Zhongke Electric, a Chinese company, has announced plans to invest approximately USD 1.1 billion to build a lithium battery material manufacturing plant in Sohar Port and Freezone, Oman.

The project will be carried out in two phases, with each phase expected to take 36 months to complete. The facility aims to produce 100,000 tonnes of lithium battery anode materials annually, primarily targeting international markets. It may also attract further international investment in the future.

According to reports, the company has postponed its USD 694 million project in Morocco to allocate funds for this new venture in Oman.

This initiative follows a growing trend of Chinese investment in Oman. In 2024 alone, China invested around USD 6.6 billion, with 76% of it directed toward the energy and petrochemical sectors.

Additional ongoing projects include a USD 200 million wind turbine factory and a USD 564 million solar power plant in northern Oman. The Zhongke Electric project further strengthens China-Oman industrial and technological cooperation.
