Commercial Vessel Sinks Near Salalah; 20 Crew Members Rescued in Final Moments

June 22, 2025, Oman’s Maritime Security Center announced that a commercial vessel named “Phonix 15”, sailing under the flag of the Comoros, sank approximately 20 nautical miles southeast of the Port of Salalah.

According to the official statement, all 20 crew members were rescued moments before the vessel sank, thanks to the immediate intervention of the commercial ship “Gulf Baraka”, which happened to be near the incident site and responded quickly to the distress signal.

Omani maritime authorities are currently assessing any potential environmental or navigational risks resulting from the sinking. Necessary measures are underway to monitor and secure the affected maritime area.

The incident highlights the critical importance of regional maritime cooperation and swift emergency response in ensuring crew safety and maintaining secure navigation in Omani territorial waters.
