Italian Maritime Icon Reaches Oman on a World Tour
The Amerigo Vespucci, built and commissioned in 1931, has been a symbol of Italian maritime heritage for over 90 years. The ship is currently on a two-year world tour that began on July 1, 2023, in Genoa, visiting 36 ports across 32 countries. The stop in Muscat marks the 32nd stage of the journey and the first-ever visit of the ship to Oman.
Speaking about the event, Pierluigi D’Elia, Ambassador of Italy to Oman, said:
“The oceans connect us beyond borders and differences. Amerigo Vespucci is a symbol of love and fraternity, spreading this message across the globe.”
In 2007, the Amerigo Vespucci was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, a title renewed in 2016. The ship continues to represent Italy’s rich culture, history, and innovation through its global voyages.
