His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman received an official letter from King Salman of Saudi Arabia. The letter invited him to attend a GCC-US summit that will take place in Riyadh.
The letter was given to Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi by Saudi Ambassador Saad bin Ibrahim Bishan on Sunday.
Trump’s Middle East Visit
This invitation comes before the visit of US President Donald Trump to the Middle East, starting on May 13. Trump will first visit Saudi Arabia, then Qatar, and later the United Arab Emirates.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that President Trump wants to build good relationships with countries in the region. He will talk about peace, new opportunities, and respect between the United States and the Middle East.
Focus on Peace and Cooperation
Trump will ask leaders to focus on business, culture, and long-term cooperation, instead of conflict and extremism.
Karoline Leavitt said:
“This trip could be the start of a new, strong relationship between the US and the Middle East.”
Change in Travel Plans
This trip was planned to be Trump’s first foreign visit. But because Pope Francis passed away in April, Trump first traveled to Rome for the funeral.
Also, Trump said he will not visit Israel during this Middle East trip.
