Investors Invited to Participate in Launching Water Taxi Services in Oman

The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced plans to launch water taxi services in Oman and is inviting local and international investors and companies to participate in the development, management, and operation of this innovative project.

Participation Details:

  • Bid Documents Availability: Starting February 9, 2025.
  • Deadline for Clarifications: February 2, 2025.
  • Requirements for Applicants:
    • Commercial registration of the company.
    • Valid license for operating water taxis.
    • Certificate of origin for the water taxi unit.
    • Ownership documents of the water taxi unit.
    • The unit must not be older than 15 years from its date of construction or reconstruction.

Vision for Water Taxi Services

This initiative is part of the Greater Muscat Structure Plan (GMSP), which aims to enhance public transportation and reduce dependency on private vehicles. Key aspects of the plan include:

  • Metro and Bus Rapid Transit Systems (BRTS): Connecting key urban areas.
  • On-Demand Taxis, Bicycles, and Scooters: First- and last-mile connectivity to metro stations.
  • Water Taxi Services: A novel concept designed to link coastal areas and promote efficient, eco-friendly transport.
