Launch of Oman’s First Hydrogen Station for Vehicles by Shell

On February 24, 2025, the first green hydrogen station for vehicles, owned by Shell Oman, was inaugurated in Oman. This project is a major step towards sustainable transportation and transforming the country into a low-carbon transport hub in the region.

📍 Location of the Station: The station is located near Muscat International Airport and provides services such as fast-charging electric vehicles and traditional fuel dispensing all in one place. The technology used to produce green hydrogen is solar-powered electrolysis, with a daily production capacity of 130 kg of green hydrogen.

The Importance of This Project for Oman

This project is a crucial step in the development of Oman’s green hydrogen infrastructure and supports the country’s key goals of diversifying energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will also create new economic opportunities for Oman and contribute to achieving the carbon-neutral Oman 2050 vision.

🔹 Engineer Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Oman:
“This station is the first official facility in the country for supplying green hydrogen and an important step towards achieving Oman’s 2050 carbon neutrality vision. This project also reflects the Omani government’s commitment to realizing the vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to make Oman a global leader in green hydrogen.”

🔹 Waleed Hadi, Shell Oman CEO:
“This project is the result of successful collaboration between Shell Oman, Mwasalat, and Nama and highlights the importance of partnerships in accelerating the transition to renewable energy solutions and green energy solutions in Oman.”

🔹 Engineer Badr bin Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat Oman:
“This project will increase the use of hydrogen vehicles in the transport fleet. Our goal is to add 15 hydrogen-powered vehicles to the fleet and play a key role in the development of sustainable transport and reducing carbon emissions.”

🔹 Ahmed bin Salem Al Abri, CEO of Nama:
“We will provide 7,000 renewable energy certificates to Shell Oman over the next five years, and we have already sold 250,000 renewable energy certificates to the local market. We anticipate the release of over 3 million new certificates in 2025.”

🔹 Dr. Mohammed bin Mahmoud Al Balushi, CEO of Shell Marketing Oman:
