Mass Iftar Gathering in Muttrah Brings Thousands Together

As the holy month of Ramadan unfolds, the tradition of mass Iftar gatherings has flourished across Oman, fostering a spirit of unity and generosity within communities. One of the most notable of these gatherings is the daily Iftar at Muttrah Souq, which welcomes around 1,000 people from various backgrounds each evening.
This initiative, organized by workers, employers, and local benefactors, has successfully provided 30,000 meals to fasting individuals throughout Ramadan. The event serves as a crucial support system, particularly for travelers, daily wage workers, and individuals unable to reach home in time for Iftar.
Community Participation in Food Distribution
- Iftar kits, including dates, fruits, and laban, are generously provided by Muttrah Souq workers.
- Suhoor meals, featuring biryani and traditional Omani dishes, are sponsored by a local NGO.
- Local volunteers play a crucial role in organizing and distributing food, ensuring that no one is left without a meal.
Abdul Navas Kasargod, a longtime volunteer, stated: “For over a decade, we have been distributing dates, water, juice, and laban to fasting individuals and passersby. This initiative has been made possible through the generous contributions of souq traders and small-scale vendors.”
