Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, has inaugurated the largest contemporary graffiti mural in Oman and one of the most prominent in the Gulf region, painted on a dramatic cliff face at the entrance to the governorate. The artwork reflects Musandam’s rich maritime identity through modern urban art.
A mural that speaks the language of sea and nature
Created by Omani artist Abdulaziz al Shehhi, the mural spans 70 meters in length and 14 meters in height, and took 40 consecutive days to complete, with three hours of work daily and over 500 spray cans used. It depicts vivid marine scenes including diving, dolphins, coral reefs, and various sea activities—turning the mountain face into a striking visual landmark.
Fostering creativity and local cultural expression
During the unveiling, the governor stated:
“We are proud of this artwork that showcases the beauty of Musandam’s marine environment and contributes to enhancing its visual identity. Such initiatives empower local youth and demonstrate how art can serve tourism and community spirit.”
Graffiti art to brighten public spaces
As part of this creative movement, Musandam Governorate announced the launch of a Graffiti Art Festival during the upcoming “Winter in Musandam” season. The festival will feature local and international artists who will transform public areas into open-air art galleries conveying cultural and aesthetic messages.
Towards a holistic cultural and tourism vision
This creative momentum is also part of the preparations for the Musandam International Diving Festival set for September. It reflects a broader strategy to boost the region’s artistic and tourism appeal, while preserving its natural environment as a source of inspiration and sustainable development.
