New Fee by Bank Muscat for Transfers via Mobile Number, QR Code, or Alias – Effective from August 30, 2025

July 1, 2025
Bank Muscat has announced that starting August 30, 2025, all money transfers using mobile number, QR code, or Alias to banks other than Bank Muscat or Meethaq will incur a fee of 105 baisa.
Scope of the New Fee
The fee applies to all instant transfers made through mobile number, QR code, or Alias to external bank accounts in Oman.
| Transfer Method | Destination Bank | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile/QR/Alias | Bank Muscat or Meethaq | Free |
| Mobile/QR/Alias | Other Banks in Oman | 105 Baisa |
Rationale Behind the Change
According to Bank Muscat, this adjustment aims to cover operational and infrastructure costs related to instant payment services and to align with the Central Bank of Oman’s new digital payment framework.
Customer Advisory
Customers are encouraged to review their frequent transfer recipients via the app or online banking and consider alternative transfer methods if necessary.
Precedents in Other Banks
Notably, some Omani banks—such as Bank Dhofar—had already implemented similar charges for mobile or QR code-based transfers to other banks. While the exact start date may vary, user feedback suggests these fees have been applied as early as last year in some cases.
This makes Bank Muscat among the first to formally implement transparent fees for instant mobile and QR transfers, marking a step forward in the country’s digital finance strategy.
