Oman Among Top Countries with Largest Global Maritime Fleets

The Sultanate of Oman has been ranked among the top 35 countries with the largest global maritime fleets in terms of tonnage and cargo capacity, according to the 2024 United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report. Additionally, 10 Gulf container ports have been included in the top 70 most efficient ports worldwide, out of 405 ports evaluated globally.

Gulf Maritime Fleet Highlights

• The commercial fleet of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries represents 54.2% of the total Arab commercial fleet.
• In 2024, the number of major seaports in the GCC exceeded 25 ports.

Container Productivity

• Two Gulf ports have been classified as high-productivity ports, each handling over 4 million containers annually.
• Eight other Gulf ports are categorized as medium-productivity ports, managing between 500,000 and 4 million containers annually.

Sustainable Infrastructure Development

The Statistical Center for the Gulf Cooperation Council highlighted the sustainable development of infrastructure across major maritime ports, positioning the region as a global logistics hub. The Unified Maritime Operations Center, a significant achievement of GCC collaboration, plays a vital role in safeguarding regional waters and ensuring freedom of navigation, thereby enhancing security and stability in the region.
