Announcement of New Electricity Tariffs in Oman Starting from 2025

The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) in Oman has announced revised electricity tariffs set to take effect on January 1, 2025. The new structure, approved by Salem bin Nasser bin Saeed Al Aufi, Chairman of the APSR Board of Directors, aims to balance costs, enhance efficiency, and promote sustainability across various sectors.

Who Will Be Affected?

The revised tariffs will apply to the following categories:

• Residential
• Non-residential
• Agricultural
• Fisheries

It is important to note that these tariffs exclude costs related to meters, connection accessories, service cables, and installation labor.

APSR stated that the changes are designed with the following goals:

1. Sustainability: Optimizing resource usage and encouraging renewable energy adoption.
2. Efficiency: Promoting responsible electricity consumption.
3. Transparency: Establishing a fair system for all consumer groups.

• Tariffs will follow guidelines outlined in the licensed entities’ electricity connection regulations.
• The final decision to implement the new tariffs was made on December 23, 2024.

Details of Oman’s New Electricity Tariffs Effective January 2025

Residential Sector

• Basic Accounts:
  • Up to 4,000 kWh: 14 bz/kWh
  • 4,001 to 6,000 kWh: 18 bz/kWh
  • Above 6,000 kWh: 32 bz/kWh
• Additional Accounts:
  • Up to 4,000 kWh: 22 bz/kWh
  • 4,001 to 6,000 kWh: 26 bz/kWh
  • Above 6,000 kWh: 32 bz/kWh

Non-Residential Sector

• Flat rate: 25 bz/kWh for the first year, with annual adjustments subject to Council of Ministers’ approval.

Agricultural and Fisheries Sector

• Up to 3,000 kWh: 12 bz/kWh
• 3,001 to 6,000 kWh: 16 bz/kWh
• Above 6,000 kWh: 24 bz/kWh

These tariffs aim to ensure transparency and fairness for all consumer categories.
