Oman has taken a strategic step into the advanced technology and semiconductor industry, with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) announcing a consultancy tender for establishing a national semiconductor ecosystem, including a Centre of Excellence for Semiconductors and Electronic Chips.

The initiative is part of a broader national vision to position Oman as a key player in the global semiconductor value chain. The centre will support attracting foreign investments, enabling advanced chip design and manufacturing, and creating high-skilled jobs in testing, research, and innovation.

According to MTCIT, the tender is open to experienced consultancy firms with a strong track record in managing similar national and commercial projects, aligned with the scope and objectives outlined in the tender documents.

The centre will also focus on long-term technology transfer and localisation efforts, aiming to build a sustainable national capability in this strategic field.
