In a formal ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Sofia, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev awarded Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi the Republic’s Medal of Honor, one of Bulgaria’s highest state distinctions, in recognition of Oman’s humanitarian efforts in securing the safe return of the Bulgarian crew of the Galaxy Leader ship.

President Radev praised Oman’s noble stance and commitment to peace and human solidarity, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, and highlighted the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations.

Minister Al Busaidi expressed deep pride in receiving the award, stating that “in a world overwhelmed by turbulence, the values that unite humanity have never been more vital.” He affirmed Oman’s continued commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and humanitarian engagement.

Following a round of political talks, the two foreign ministers held a joint press conference, emphasizing the strength of bilateral ties and agreeing to establish regular consultations in sectors including energy, economy, education, tourism, artificial intelligence, and transport.

Both sides also agreed to open permanent embassies in Muscat and Sofia, and to explore the launch of direct flights. A memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation is expected to pave the way for joint renewable energy projects, particularly in wind, solar, and green hydrogen.

On global affairs, the ministers reaffirmed their shared belief in sustainable solutions through diplomacy, rejecting the use of force and zero-sum approaches, and advocating for international peace and justice.
