Import of 290,000 Livestock to Meet Consumer Demand in Oman

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources of Oman announced that in January and February 2025, a total of 289,089 live livestock were supplied to local markets.
Livestock Import Permits Issued
To meet the increasing demand, the Ministry issued 129 import permits for livestock. The total approved imports include:
🐑 332,700 sheep and goats
🐄 26,450 cattle
Rising Demand During Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr
Engineer Khalfan bin Matar Al-Sharji, Director General of Livestock, emphasized that Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr are peak periods for red meat consumption in local markets. To address this, livestock import companies continue supplying the market, and imports are expected to increase in the coming days to meet the demand of the holy month and festive season.
Facilitating Livestock Import Processes
The Ministry is actively collaborating with livestock import companies to simplify and facilitate import procedures, ensuring an adequate supply to local markets.
Ensuring Livestock Health
Veterinary quarantine teams at the Ministry are continuously monitoring and implementing necessary health measures on all imported livestock shipments. These precautions aim to prevent the entry of infectious and epidemic animal diseases into Oman.
