The Sultanate of Oman has achieved an outstanding position in global aviation security, ranking 4th worldwide and 3rd regionally, following the UAE (1st) and Qatar (2nd), according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit conducted in February 2025.
The country scored 94.4% compliance with Annex 17 (aviation security) and 100% compliance with Annex 9 (facilitation), showcasing Oman’s firm commitment to global aviation standards.
RO 105 million in revenue and strong operational growth
At its annual media briefing, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) reported RO 105 million in revenue for 2024 and key performance indicators including:
- 2% increase in passenger traffic
- Over 120,000 flights recorded
- 540,300 aircraft transited Omani airspace, up 14% YoY
- Over 150,000 tonnes of air cargo handled
- 19 foreign airlines licensed to operate in Oman
Strategic infrastructure developments underway
The final design of Musandam Airport is nearing completion, and a tender for the new passenger terminal at Sohar Airport is expected by year-end. In addition, a new aircraft hangar at Muscat International Airport for large aircraft like the A380 will open later this year.
Al Abri: Oman plays a strategic role in regional airspace security
Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the CAA, stated: “These results reflect Oman’s clear aviation strategy and international readiness. The Sultanate continues to strengthen its position as a key player in securing regional airspace.”
