Omani Passport Rises to 56th Globally with Visa-Free Access to 88 Destinations

According to the latest Henley Passport Index 2025 report powered by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Omani passport holders can now travel to 88 countries without a visa or with visa-on-arrival — an increase from 86 destinations in 2024.

Oman’s steady upward trajectory in global rankings
Oman continues to climb the global mobility ladder: it was ranked 65th in 2023, improved to 60th in 2024, and now holds the 56th position.

The Henley Passport Index ranks countries based on how many destinations their citizens can visit without needing a visa in advance.

A global shift toward greater mobility
The report notes:

“Over the past decade, more than 80 passports have climbed at least 10 ranks, and the global average number of visa-free destinations has increased from 58 in 2006 to 109 in 2025.”

Global Leaders
Singapore leads the index with access to 193 destinations visa-free. Japan and South Korea follow, each allowing access to 190 countries.

Regional and global highlights

  • The United Arab Emirates has seen the biggest rise among top-tier passports, climbing 34 positions over 10 years — from 42nd to 8th place.
  • The United Kingdom and United States now rank 6th and 10th, respectively, continuing a long-term downward trend and nearing exit from the global Top 10.
  • India climbed 8 spots in the last six months, reaching 77th, despite only two additional visa-free destinations.
  • Saudi Arabia added 4 new destinations, bringing its total to 91 and moving up to 54th place.

GCC nationals can now enter China visa-free
Among major developments, China has granted visa-free access to all Gulf Cooperation Council countries, including Oman. As of 2025, China’s total openness score has reached 75 countries.

Bottom of the ranking
At the opposite end, Afghanistan remains in last place, with its citizens enjoying visa-free access to only 25 destinations.
