Oman’s Largest Solar Power Plants: Manah 1 and Manah 2 Inaugurated

Oman has taken a major step towards transitioning to clean energy by inaugurating two large solar power plants, Manah 1 and Manah 2, in the Wilayat of Manah, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. These projects were inaugurated by HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, son of the Sultan of Oman and honorary head of Omani Startups and Architectural Design Initiatives, spanning an area of 14.5 million square meters, with a production capacity of 1,000 megawatts.


Collaboration with Sembcorp Industries

The Manah 1 and Manah 2 projects were executed in partnership with Sembcorp Industries, a leading Singapore-based company specializing in renewable energy, water management, and sustainable urban development.
Sembcorp played a pivotal role in designing and implementing these solar plants, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to ensure maximum efficiency and sustainability. Their advanced systems, including bifacial solar panels and automated dry-cleaning robots, significantly contribute to reducing Oman’s carbon footprint and achieving its renewable energy targets.


Technical and Environmental Features


Key Objectives

  1. Boost Oman’s renewable energy production from 6.6% to 11%.
  2. Provide clean electricity to approximately 120,000 homes.
  3. Contribute to Oman’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Oman’s Progress in Clean Energy

Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, stated:

“The inauguration of the Manah 1 and Manah 2 solar plants marks a milestone in the transformation of Oman’s electricity sector. It reflects the Sultanate’s ambitious vision for clean and sustainable energy.”

He emphasized that these projects represent a blend of ambition and action in the fields of innovation and sustainability.

Dr. Mansoor Talib Al Hinai, Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulation, added:

“These projects align with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, advancing strategic objectives for sustainable development and energy security.”

He also highlighted the importance of robust economic and technical regulations and enhanced corporate governance in ensuring the success of such projects.
