Oman’s Ministry of Education Issues Guidelines to Reduce School Bag Weight

Oman’s Ministry of Education has recently issued new guidelines aimed at reducing the weight of school bags for students in grades 1 to 4. According to the guidelines:
- Each student should use only one notebook per subject (for the first and second subjects), with each notebook containing no more than 80 pages.
- Students’ school bags should contain no more than three books per day, with this number coordinated among subject teachers.
- Activity books should be kept at school and handed to students only if there is a homework assignment.
- Electronic books available on the educational portal should be used as an alternative for students outside school.
- Students will receive only the books for the first semester, with second-semester books kept at school.
- Classroom lockers should be used effectively for storing books and notebooks, with no non-academic items allowed.
- Books and materials related to individual skills should be kept at school and provided to students only if needed for homework.
These measures aim to ease the daily burden of carrying heavy school bags for young students.
