News: The Ministry of Labor of Oman has recently intensified its monitoring of compliance with the Wage Protection System (WPS) by private companies. This step was taken after statistics showed that 57,398 companies had failed to properly implement this system. Introduced on July 9, 2023, the WPS is designed to regulate the transfer of wages within the country to protect workers’ rights.
In an online statement, the ministry announced that from January 10 to August 20, 2024, over 186,817 SMS reminders and warnings were sent to various companies to ensure their adherence to wage transfer regulations. These supervisory actions aim to protect workers’ rights and guarantee timely and secure wage payments.
The Ministry of Labor also reported conducting awareness workshops in cooperation with industry partners to increase companies’ awareness of the importance and implementation of the WPS. These workshops assist companies in effectively handling the challenges and responsibilities associated with wage transfers.
