OQ by Oman Racing Forced to Withdraw from GT European Championship Due to Technical Issue

Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium – July 2, 2024 – OQ by Oman Racing’s hopes of a podium finish at the Spa 24 Hours in Belgium were dashed in the final hour when their BMW M4 GT3 suffered a technical issue. The team, which was running in third place, was forced to retire from the race with just 8 hours remaining.

The OQ by Oman Racing team had made a strong start from 11th position and had climbed to fifth place. However, a puncture caused by contact with debris dropped them to 18th place. Despite heavy rain and numerous incidents during the race, the team fought back to regain their position.

However, in the final hour, a technical problem with the engine of their BMW M4 GT3 prevented driver Colin Willmott from continuing. Despite the team’s best efforts to fix the issue, the problem was terminal and OQ by Oman Racing was forced to retire from the race.

Ahmad Al Harthy, the team’s driver, said: “We did everything we could to challenge for a podium finish in this race, and we had the pace to be there. Unfortunately, lady luck wasn’t on our side and the technical issue with the engine in the final hour cost us dearly.”

Al Harthy added: “Despite this setback, I’m pleased with the team’s performance in this race. We showed great fighting spirit and never gave up, despite the numerous challenges we faced. That’s the spirit of OQ by Oman Racing.”

Al Harthy will next be in action on July 14th at the Brazilian round of the FIA World Endurance Championship with WRT, where he will be hoping to challenge for a podium finish.
