Qurum Park and Beach Undergo Sustainable Redevelopment with Community-Focused Vision

Muscat – May 13, 2025, A comprehensive masterplan has been unveiled to transform Qurum Park and Qurum Beach into sustainable, accessible, and people-centered public spaces. The initiative is part of Muscat’s long-term urban renewal vision aimed at enhancing livability and environmental resilience.
The project is led by Amsterdam-based VMX Architects, who are overseeing the master planning for Qurum as a mixed-use urban district combining residential, commercial, and natural zones.
Project Phases:
- Phase 1: Redesigning Qurum Beach Road by removing it from the waterfront.
- Phase 2: Upgrading Qurum Park and creating eco-sensitive connections to the beach through mangrove corridors.
Key Features for Qurum Beach:
- Car-free beachfront zone
- Direct access between cafés/restaurants and the beach
- Walking paths, viewing towers, sports amenities, structured parking, and links to the Qurum Natural Habitat
Upgrades in Qurum Park:
- New cricket, tennis, basketball, and athletics courts
- Expanded play areas for kids, teens, and adults
- Boating lake, live performance zones, shaded trails, and botanical gardens
Qurum Natural Habitat:
The Qurum Natural Habitat, home to one of the largest mangrove forests along the Sea of Oman, will be preserved with minimal interventions.
Eco-friendly features will include:
- Bird-watching towers
- Eco-resort
- Immersive walking paths through mangroves
- Light water recreation activities
With over 75,000 sqm of wild planting, a 7.5 km pedestrian network, and expanded public and residential areas, Qurum is being reshaped into a model for sustainable urban development and a hub for both residents and visitors in Muscat.
