Royal Decree Issued to Establish Special Court for Commercial Cases in Oman

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued a new royal decree establishing a specialized court for handling commercial and investment-related cases. The decree, numbered 35/2025, marks a significant step forward in the development of the country’s judicial system.
According to the decree, the new court will operate under the authority of the Supreme Judicial Council and will be headquartered in Muscat Governorate. Its role is to handle disputes specifically related to economic, commercial, and investment matters, which were previously addressed by general courts.
The decree also stipulates that cases filed before the new law takes effect, and which fall within the jurisdiction of the new court, will continue to be handled by the existing courts.
The Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council will be responsible for issuing executive regulations and overseeing the administrative structure of the new court.
All regulations that conflict with this new law will be repealed. The new court is set to begin its official operations on October 1, 2025.
📅 The royal decree was issued on March 23, 2025.
