Short-term tourists, you can now drive in Oman with your country’s license!

Foreign tourists visiting Oman can now drive with their home-country driving licenses, thanks to newly clarified regulations from the Royal Oman Police (ROP). This move is expected to boost Oman’s appeal to international travelers.
According to the Royal Oman Police (ROP), foreign visitors holding valid driving licenses from their home countries are allowed to drive in Oman for up to three months, provided their purpose is tourism or transit. The three-month period begins from the moment they enter Oman and applies exclusively to visitors with a valid tourist visa.
Additionally, international driving licenses issued by recognized organizations, such as the Oman Automobile Association, are also accepted for the same duration.
This privilege is only available to short-term visitors; expatriates living permanently in Oman must obtain an Omani driving license. License swapping for residents is not universally permitted.
These regulations are designed to simplify access for foreign drivers while ensuring safety standards. Drivers must be at least 18 years old to qualify for a license under Omani regulations.
