Significant Decline in Marriages and Divorces in Oman: NCSI Report

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has reported that the number of marriages in Oman has significantly decreased over the past few years. The number of registered marriages has dropped from 19,294 in 2021 to 15,400 in 2022 and 14,716 in 2023.

In Muscat, the number of registered marriages in 2023 was 3,565, compared to 3,162 in 2022 and 3,980 in 2021.

In other governorates, Dhofar recorded 1,622 marriages, Al Dhakilyah 1,725 marriages, North Al Batinah 2,542 marriages, South Al Batinah 1,790 marriages, South Al Sharqiyah 1,077 marriages, and North Al Sharqiyah 1,009 marriages.

Decrease in Divorce Cases

Oman has also experienced a decrease in the number of divorce cases in 2023. The number of divorce cases dropped from 4,160 in 2022 and 3,837 in 2021 to 3,828 in 2023.

In Muscat, the number of divorces increased to 1,008 in 2023, compared to 977 in 2022 and 853 in 2021.

In other governorates, Dhofar recorded 633 divorce cases, Al Dhakilyah 360 cases, North Al Batinah 665 cases, South Al Batinah 325 cases, South Al Sharqiyah 241 cases, and North Al Sharqiyah 251 cases.
