Wadi Dayqah Dam to Become New Source of Drinking Water for Muscat

Nama Water Services has signed an agreement with the private sector to establish a water purification plant at Wadi Dayqah Dam in Quriyat.
The project, the first of its kind in the region, is estimated at over OMR 55 million (approximately USD 143 million) and aims to enhance water security and ensure a sustainable supply of potable water.
It will be developed over 20 years through a public-private partnership under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model and is expected to be completed within 22 months. The plant will have a production capacity of 65,000 cubic meters per day, with 35,000 cubic meters allocated for drinking water and 30,000 cubic meters for agricultural irrigation.
Project infrastructure will include a 7 km transmission line, a pumping station, and a 20,000 cubic meter collection tank.
The agreement was signed by Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services, and Sultan bin Abdullah Al Jafari, Chairman of Al Tayer Engineering Services Company, in the presence of Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
Al Zakwani described the project as being of strategic importance to strengthen Oman’s water security, stating: “Nama Water Services is committed to meeting the increasing water demand resulting from population growth and urban expansion, in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.“
The facility will be connected to the main water transmission network, allowing for resource sharing during emergencies and ensuring continuity of service. Additionally, the project is expected to generate over 100 indirect job opportunities during its construction and operation phases, with at least 50% of direct jobs allocated to Omani nationals.
