Oman Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Cucumber, Pepper and Tomato Production

Oman has reached 100% self-sufficiency in cucumber production, 95% self-sufficiency in pepper production, and 83% self-sufficiency in tomato production.

Cucumber Production

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, 103,200 tons of cucumbers were produced in 2023 from 473 acres of land. North Al Batinah was the most productive region, with 40,119 tons produced in 2023. Approximately 8 tons of cucumbers were re-exported, while 550 tons were imported and 495 tons were exported.

Pepper Production

Oman has 95% self-sufficiency in pepper production. 166,943 tons of peppers were produced in 2023, with 163,647 tons of that coming from North Al Batinah.

Tomato Production

In 2023, 225,488 tons of tomatoes were produced, with 159,277 tons coming from North Al Batinah. Additionally, about 252 tons of peppers were re-exported, while 54,975 tons were imported, and 8,850 tons were exported.

These achievements reflect Oman’s success in meeting its goal of increasing agricultural production and reducing reliance on imports.
