Carrefour Exits Oman Following Jordan

The globally renowned retail brand Carrefour officially ceased its operations in Oman on January 7, 2025.
In a statement, the company expressed its gratitude:
“Effective from January 7, 2025, Carrefour operations will be discontinued in the Sultanate of Oman. On behalf of the Management and Staff, we express our sincerest gratitude for your unwavering support over the decades.”
A New Brand: Hypermax Replaces Carrefour
Reliable sources have confirmed that Hypermax, a new retail brand, has replaced Carrefour in Oman. Observations indicate that Carrefour signage in various outlets across Muscat has been removed and replaced with Hypermax branding.
Carrefour’s Legacy in the Region
Carrefour has been exclusively operated in the Middle East and North Africa by Majid Al Futtaim since 1995. The first Carrefour hypermarket in the region was launched at City Centre Deira, Dubai. By 2020, Majid Al Futtaim had expanded Carrefour to over 320 outlets in 16 countries.
Similar Shift in Jordan
It is interesting to know that in the last two months, a similar development took place in Jordan, and Carrefour branches in that country were also replaced by the Hypermax brand.
This marks a significant shift in Oman’s retail sector, with Hypermax stepping in to serve customers in place of Carrefour.
