Norway’s Nordic Electrofuel Plans e-SAF Production in Oman

Nordic Electrofuel, a leading Norwegian producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), has announced plans to establish an e-SAF production facility in Oman. The plant will leverage green hydrogen sourced from Oman’s burgeoning renewable energy sector, marking a significant step in supporting global decarbonization efforts.
Key Highlights of the Project
✅ Strategic Location: Oman’s rich solar and wind resources make it an ideal hub for cost-effective renewable electricity generation.
✅ Innovative Process: e-SAF is produced by combining hydrogen extracted from water (via electrolysis) with CO₂ captured from the atmosphere or industrial activities, resulting in low-carbon aviation fuel.
✅ Boost for Aviation: This initiative aligns with global efforts to help airlines reduce their carbon emissions.
Oman’s Vision for a Green Economy
- Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is spearheading initiatives to establish a national e-SAF production hub, attracting significant investments from local and international players.
- Collaborations like the OSCAR Consortium (involving OQ Alternative Energy, Sumitomo, and Airbus) and partnerships with companies such as SkyNRG and Wakud showcase Oman’s leadership in advancing sustainable aviation fuels.
A Bright Future Ahead
💡 Nordic Electrofuel’s Commitment: The company aims to produce 1 billion liters of low-carbon jet fuel annually by 2033, using its advanced Power-to-Liquid (PtL) technology.
🚀 Middle East Expansion: Alongside Oman, a 350 million liters per year facility in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, is also in development, with a target launch date in 2029.
Towards a Sustainable Future
With Nordic Electrofuel’s investment and Oman’s proactive approach to renewable energy, the Sultanate is poised to become a global leader in sustainable aviation fuel production, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable aviation industry.
