Implementation of Bawshar Al-Amerat Tunnel after the completion of technical studies
Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Hamidi, Mayor of Muscat, announced that the municipality is studying the construction project of the “Bawshar-Al-Amerat” tunnel as an additional route connecting these two areas. This project is part of the comprehensive Muscat plan overseen by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.
Al-Hamidi said in an interview with “alroya.om” that this project is in the stage of technical and financial studies conducted by specialized teams from the Muscat municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Communications. He added that the Ministry of Finance, through the Partnership and Allocation Unit, is also participating in these studies to assess the economic aspects and finance of the project. He confirmed that the results of these studies will be used as a basis for implementing the project upon completion.
Ongoing projects to improve the province’s road network
He also mentioned several municipal projects and services aimed at improving the road network in the Muscat Governorate. Among these projects is the dualization of the “Al Ansab-Al Jafnayn” road, which is expected to continue for 36 months and is considered a significant development in the road network of the governorate. He added that the municipality is continuing the implementation of the dualization project of Halban Street in its first phase and is expected to be completed soon. Also, the continuation of the second phase of the dualization project of Al Murtadha Street in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, which extends from Al Murtadha Camp Roundabout to the Armed Forces Hospital Roundabout and then to the Sultan Qaboos University intersection.
Ongoing rainwater disposal projects and flood risks
Al-Hamidi emphasized that the Muscat municipality is implementing several projects for rainwater drainage channels to strengthen infrastructure and protect citizens from the risks of floods and water pooling. Among these projects is the surface water drainage channel in Al Anwar Street in the Al Athaiba area and the construction project of a water drainage channel in the Al Jafnayn area in the Wilayat of Al Seeb. Also, the municipality has started implementing the second phase of rainwater drainage channels project in the Al Mahaj area in the Wilayat of Al-Amerat.
