NASA Applauds Unprecedented Astronomical Discovery by Omani Astronomical Society

Discovery Under the International Asteroid Search Campaign (IASC)

This discovery is part of the International Asteroid Search Campaign (IASC), an initiative aimed at discovering and tracking asteroids near Earth using cutting-edge scientific techniques and precise astronomical data analysis.

Details of the Discovery

One of the asteroids was discovered by Khalfan bin Hamad Al-Malki, a chemistry professor and member of the Omani Astronomical Society, on February 5. Al-Malki is the first member of the society to discover an Earth-approaching object.

The asteroid P226gRJ has been officially recorded by NASA. Al-Malki now holds a rare privilege to name the asteroid within a week.
