Oman’s Mobile Subscriptions Surpass 7 Million, Internet Broadband Usage Declines

According to a recent report by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman, the total number of mobile subscriptions in the country reached 7,001,500 by the end of March 2024, indicating a 3.1% increase from 6,842,800 subscriptions during the same period in 2023.

The report revealed that this growth was accompanied by a 4.13% increase in the overall population penetration rate, a 4.19% increase in average usage per subscription, and a 1.77% increase in average revenue per subscription.

In contrast, mobile broadband subscriptions witnessed a 1.41% decline by the end of last March, while average usage per subscription decreased by 7.60% and average revenue per subscription dropped by 1.56%.

Regarding fixed-line services, the total number of subscriptions reached 596,809, reflecting a 3.03% increase from 562,419 subscriptions the previous year. However, average usage per subscription declined by 11.16% and average revenue per subscription fell by 5.98%.

Fixed broadband subscriptions also rose to 572,450 by the end of the first quarter of this year, marking a 1.86% increase from 539,334 subscriptions in the same period of 2023. Nevertheless, average usage per subscription decreased by 0.68%, while average revenue per subscription edged up by 0.87%.

The report further indicated that concerning international calls, the number of outgoing international minutes increased by 6.03% by the end of the first quarter of 2024. Conversely, the average revenue per minute of connection on mobile phones declined by 7.76% and on fixed phones by 10.32%.
